The journey began with the arrival of hundreds of children and their families to experience the Ayalon Valley, where they joined 120 members of ZAKA’s Jeep Unit. From there, they embarked on an exciting field activity led by officers and soldiers from YAHAT (IDF’s National Rescue Unit), offering the children with cerebral palsy a unique field experience that included an accessible zip line, laser shooting, and a Bedouin tent in the Beit Shemesh forest.

About 150 family members of wounded soldiers from the Iron Swords War also joined the Hero’s Journey, receiving a day of respite and strength for their continued daily challenges.

After the field activities, all participants returned to the Ayalon Valley Ranch, where a barbecue dinner, a Hanukkah candle lighting ceremony, an artistic performance, and a festive dance were held for all participants.

Health Minister Rabbi Uriel Bouso, who surprised the families on site, was moved and said: “We saw ZAKA volunteers and YAHAT fighters during the difficult days of the war, and it is heartwarming to see the dedication and partnership of all those who took part in the Hero’s Journey and support the wounded families and disabled children. It is a symbol of Hanukkah to see and show light, even when there is difficulty and darkness around.”

Chaim Otmzgin, Commander of ZAKA’s Special Units, who led and initiated the emotional journey, said: “As someone who experienced the effects of the war, I felt privileged to meet the families of the wounded and express the appreciation of ZAKA and YAHAT volunteers for their daily courage alongside their loved ones injured in the war.”

Lieutenant Colonel Yossi Pinto, Commander of YAHAT, added: “We were given a unique opportunity to express the values of YAHAT, to reach anyone who needs help and be there for them, especially when it comes to the families of injured soldiers. The experience of seeing the children and families happy during this journey is incredibly moving. It is important for us to be part of such an endeavor that brings light and joy.”
