Beginning buds
On Thursday the 3rd of Tammuz 1989 (6.7.89) in front of the town of Talez-Ston, the terrorist Abdel Rahdi Anas, a 25-year-old member of the Islamic Jihad, took over the steering wheel of the driver of an 'Egged' bus on route 405 that made his way from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, and degenerated it into the abyss, the first 'suicide' attack of its kind in Israel, in which 16 people lost their lives and 27 were injured. The attack on line 405 A handful of people of action and kindness rushed and ran from Jerusalem towards the Wadi, risking their lives to save when it is possible to save and to honor when all that remains is to honor

Search rescue and rescue
This was actually the beginning of the organization known today as "ZAKA - Search, Rescue and Rescue", the volunteers who came each on his initiative began to form in an orderly manner. And so the ZAKA organization was founded, uniting under it those determined people who were engaged in the holy work. With the aim of handling in an orderly and responsible manner the identification of victims of terrorist attacks and disasters, and the humanitarian and halachic aspects involved in preserving the dignity of the dead. The attack on line 405 A handful of people of action and kindness ran and ran from Jerusalem towards the Wadi, risking their lives to save those who can still be saved and honor those who are left only to honor
True kindness
In a short time, the organization, which currently numbers thousands of volunteers, became an important and helpful arm in the activities of the rescue and security forces. The organizational and operational efficiency and the professional approach of the ZAKA organization and its volunteers, who have more than once engaged in complex tasks in Israel and around the world, as well as perseverance and adherence to the task have become a byword.
Anywhere, any time
As a natural continuation of these tasks, Zaka grew additional and important branches in the field of help and assistance to all sections of the population. Since then, in every "small" tragic event or in events with many casualties, as a routine as a disaster. Zaka volunteers run fast to save when it is possible to save and to honor when all that remains is to honor. For those whose fate did not improve and did not get to come whole to the grave of Israel.
Save when you can save and respect when all that remains is to respect
Many years of activity day and night in events not covered by the media, as well as in national disaster events, created an echo in society in Israel and in the world for an organization that is all about kindness. The Zaka organization was even recognized by the United Nations as an international organization. It is one of three organizations in the State of Israel recognized by the United Nations as an NGO, and as such it has proven its operational ability in sending aid missions from Israel to disaster events around the world. The ZAKA organization has demonstrated a rare ability in its unique advantage and ability as a non-institutional body, to recruit and activate thousands of volunteers from the ultra-orthodox sector to integrate them into volunteering and contributing for the benefit of all Israeli citizens regardless of religion, race and gender in routine and emergency situations. Since then, in every "small" tragic event or in events with many casualties, as a routine as a disaster. Zaka volunteers run fast to save when it is possible to save and to honor when all that remains is to honor. For those whose fate did not improve and did not get to come whole to the grave of Israel.

Due to the nature of the work of ZAKA volunteers, they encounter difficult halachic questions and issues, sometimes involving fateful decisions, questions of saving lives and soul control, halachic identification, mourning permits, Shabbat and holidays, prohibitions and allowances. Difficult questions and complications have accumulated during the work and are renewed from case to case. Therefore, the ZAKA Rabbinical Council was established to guide the organization and its volunteers, to provide practical halachic instructions on every matter and issue that arises in the holy work, and to strengthen and deepen the study of halacha among ZAKA volunteers in matters related to ZAKA work.
